FAQ ‒ Frequently asked questions

  • What happens if a DCC transaction is claimed?

If a DCC transaction is refunded to a customer's card due to a complaint, the transaction amount is converted from the cardholder's local currency into euros. Due to exchange rate differences, the final chargeback amount may differ from the original euro transaction amount. In any case, you will be informed in writing of all the details of the chargeback process before the amount is debited from your account.

  • What is the best way to offer DCC to my customers?

You can use these sample questions to offer your customers DCC in the payment process: “Would you like to pay in euros or in your local currency? “That's ten euros or the equivalent of XXX in your local currency. Which currency would you like to pay in?”

  • Which currencies are supported by DCC?

We support numerous currencies and are continuously expanding our offering. If the card was issued in a supported currency, it is automatically recognized and the customer is offered the opportunity to select the preferred currency.

  • What about pre-authorizations and DCC?

DCC can also be used for transactions that require pre-authorization, such as hotel bookings or car rentals. In these cases, customers will see the current exchange rate for DCC as well as the amount in the desired currency. It is important to clearly inform customers that the exchange rate of the check-out day or the day of use of the services will be applied.

  • How does a DCC transaction work at the terminal?

    • Enter the amount in EUR into your terminal.
    • Customers hold their contactless payment card up to the terminal and/or insert the payment card into the corresponding chip reader on the terminal.
    • If a foreign payment card with DCC is used, the amount to be paid will automatically appear on the display in both currencies.
    • Now hand the terminal (or the PIN pad) to the customers and ask them to select and confirm the desired currency.
    • If necessary, the customer enters the PIN and returns the terminal or PIN pad.
    • Once the transaction has been successfully completed, hand over the receipt to the customer as usual.

  • How does a refund work?

If you want to refund a transaction that was carried out with DCC, enter the amount in euros and then select DCC. Due to exchange rate fluctuations, the final refunded amount may differ from the original amount. Customers must be made aware of this.
